Who is responsible?

MateFinder (publisher of the app and website) is responsible for the data processing described below. For any question: privacy@matefinder.app.

Minimum age

MateFinder is intended for users aged 13 or older. If you are under 16, use of the service requires the consent of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe this has occurred, contact us at privacy@matefinder.app.

Data we process (depending on your usage)

• Account: Firebase identifier (UID), email (email/password, Google, or Discord login), email verification status.
• Discord (if connected): id, username, discriminator, avatar.
• Profile: nickname, bio, game preferences (game/rank/mode), voice, tags, availability.
• Photos: profile images you upload (stored on Firebase Storage).
• Messages: text messages, reactions and voice messages (if you send them).
• Relationships: friends, friend requests, blocks/hides, group invites.
• Presence: online/offline state and timestamp (Realtime Database).
• Notifications: Expo push token (to send you notifications).
• Location (if enabled): timezone, approximate position (lat/long/accuracy) and city/region/country.

Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

• Performance of a contract: account, profile, messages, relationships, presence, notifications — necessary to operate the service.
• Consent: approximate location (explicitly requested in the app), Firebase Analytics (analytical identifiers linked to usage).
• Legitimate interest: security, abuse prevention, moderation, technical logs.

You may withdraw your consent at any time (location: via your device settings; analytics: via your device's privacy settings).

App permissions (optional)

• Notifications: receive new messages, requests and invites.
• Microphone: record and send voice messages.
• Photos: select/upload a profile picture.
• Location: get timezone and approximate location (if you enable it).

Where data is hosted / providers

MateFinder relies on Firebase (Google): Authentication, Firestore, Storage, Realtime Database, Cloud Functions and Analytics. For notifications, we also use Expo Push. If you use Discord or Google to sign in, those services participate in authentication.

Analytics (app + website)

We use Firebase Analytics to understand usage (e.g. page views on the website, navigation in the app), improve the service and diagnose issues. This may involve analytical identifiers and technical data (depending on your device/browser settings). You can opt out via your operating system's privacy settings.

Retention and deletion

• Account and profile data: kept while the account is active, deleted within 30 days of a deletion request.
• Messages: messages remain visible in other participants' chat history after account deletion, but the account is marked as deleted and dissociated.
• Technical logs: kept for up to 90 days for security and debugging purposes.
• Push tokens: deleted on logout or account deletion.

You can delete your account from the app (Settings) or via the Account deletion page.

Security

We enforce Firebase access rules (Auth + Firestore/Storage/RTDB rules) and server-side controls (Cloud Functions) to restrict data access to authorized users only.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Union, you have the following rights:

• Access: obtain a copy of the data held about you.
• Rectification: correct inaccurate data.
• Erasure: request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
• Objection: object to certain processing activities.
• Restriction: request restriction of processing.
• Portability: receive your data in a structured format.

To exercise these rights: privacy@matefinder.app. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (e.g. CNIL in France: cnil.fr).
